Thinking too much
I just read a blog post by Drew McLellan about why many of us tend to think to much about things. We have an idea then start putting obstacles in the way before we have even taken action. We go straight into detail and over analyse what we need to do to get our idea just perfect. However, what you find with most successful people is that they don’t think to much, they have an idea and take action. In his book “Action – Nothing Happens Until Something Moves” Robert Ringer noted that Paul McCartney put it well, when asked in an interview how the Beatles got started, McCartney replied “Nobody knows how to do it. You just start a band”. And that’s where the secret lies in great marketing you must take action, you may not do it perfectly each and every time, but at least you are getting out there, promoting you business. Over time you will learn what works and what doesn’t, but at least you are doing something, instead of trying to develop the perfect marketing activity. So the message of this blog post is simple, stop thinking and start taking action.

You just start a band. Amen to that. One of the great things about marketing is that no one’s going to die if we get it wrong. So why not give it a go? Of course, you need to give it some thought. But you don’t have to solve the entire puzzle before you begin to put it together.
I couldn’t agree with you more.

Thanks for the comment Drew. When we set up our company, we didn’t actually think too much about it. We got some phones, a couple of laptops, a colleague to develop a logo for us and called everyone we knew until we got two contracts that got us started. It’s all about being proactive, which counts for a lot especially in tough times like these.
