Old School Marketing
I have just read an interesting blog on http://blog.buzzoodle.com/index.php/2008/12/29/old-school-marketing/ that reviews that although all the new marketing techniques such as using Facebook, blogs and other types of Internet marketing are good, you shouldn’t ignore some of the marketing staples. This includes word of mouth – which when used correctly can be a very effective way of marketing your products and services. One way that word of mouth marketing can be used is by asking your clients for referrals. This may sound like a simple thing to do, but how many people actually ask their clients for referrals on a regular basis?
All you need to do is ask “Is there anyone else you know who you could refer us to?” and if the client knows you well, I can guarantee they will know at least one if not two companies they can think of who could benefit from your products and services. Then all they need to do is give these companies a call and introduce you. What could be simpler and what’s more you get a very warm introduction into a potential client with a glowing reference.
Word of mouth is a great thing, just think, when you want some work doing on your house, the first thing you normally do is ask your family and friends if they can recommend someone who has done some work for them. If a trades person comes highly recommended then you feel more confident that they are going to do a good job for you and it remove some of the risk that you might experience if you choose someone out of the Yellow Pages.
So don’t ignore basic marketing techniques such as press releases, press releases and getting your website listed in directories.
