Marketing Creativity & Speed

This blog post by Seth Godin highlights that sometimes when we are under pressure, without the luxury to think and over analyse things we can create some really good ideas. We can’t run around a 100 miles an hour creating new ideas all the time, but have you noticed that sometimes when you are under pressure you can accomplish amazing things that you might never have done if you had the luxury of time. There is a principle that we use at Brighter Marketing which we found in a management book some time ago and it comes from William of Occam who is quoted as saying

Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem or “Entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily.”

and “It is vain to do with more what can be done with less”

All of which was distilled into…

…Occam’s razor: The simplest solution tends to be the correct one

Sometimes we don’t take the simplest route and start to over complicate things when we have time to think. So why not set yourself a challenge to come up with a new service in the next 30 minutes. You might be surprised how quickly you can come up with ideas when you set your mind to it.
