Spring is here (almost), I was out at the weekend and I could feel the heat and the faint rays of the sun on my face for the first time, in what seems like months. It felt lovely and it made me think about spring cleaning, something many of us do in our houses, but don’t take advantage of in our business lives.
Spring is a time of renewal and new life so why not spend some time giving your marketing a spring clean. Tell yourself that 2010 will be the best year yet and take a a look at these top 5 spring clean marketing tips…
1. Take a look at all your marketing support literature; brochures, flyers, postcards, in fact anything you use to promote your business. Then ask yourself, are they really working, do they connect with potential customers or are they just sat there accumulating dust? If they are aren’t working for you then recycle them and think about developing some marketing literature that will work, is engaging and is of use to your potential customers.
2. How clean is your marketing database? Is it full of old prospects and contacts, or is the contact information out of date? Take a long hard look at your marketing database and give it a really good clean. If you data isn’t up-to-date with relevant information how can you expect your marketing to be effective.
3. Make the environment you work in a great place to work. Marketing is all about being creative, so if you are sat in an uncomfortable chair, with a messy desk with no inspiration around you, then it is hardly suprising you don’t feel energised to develop some great marketing strategies. Clean your desk up, put up some bright pictures and make your work environment a place you look forward to going.
4. Spend 15 minutes a day clearing the clutter from you mind, we all get busy and as our minds become full of information, we can find it hard to think clearly. So get up an go for a walk once in a while in the Spring sunshine. It is amazing what a short break can do to refresh your spirits and help clear you mind and come up with some great new marketing ideas.
5. Review all aspects of your marketing. Just like you would with a Spring clean, work through each room of your marketing house, review what is working, what isn’t, what you need to update and what you need to change. You don’t need to do it all in one day, just set aside an hour a day for the next few weeks to make sure your marketing is as effective as it could be. Take a look at your adverts, direct mail, web pages, networking events you attend, etc etc. Make sure you give them all a good dust down, and make them spring into action for you.
