Marketing Book Launch
We said that we would keep a diary of how we are going to launch our marketing book and give you the lowdown on all the marketing tools we are going to use. So here is the first installment, which in truth takes into account some work that we did a few weeks ago, but since we didn’t have the blog up and running then, we couldn’t put it on here.
The very first marketing tool we used was our brains, we sat down and thought of all the ways that we could promote the book. Nothing was off limits and after some distillation we came up with a top ten list of what we needed to do to get maximum coverage for our book launch. It looked something like the list below and we have kept it more or less in the rough format we used.
1. Need some PR coverage, editorials, interviews and pictures of us with the book, both in the local area, on the web and if possible national coverage
2. New website must be up and running to promote the book before it is ready for sale. There must be a way for people register their interest in the book – perhaps we could give away some of the chapters as a taster . The Aweber email marketing tool can handle this automatically for us. Here is the link you can use to download the two free marketing chapters from this great little marketing book.
3. Get a blog up and running, then document how we launched the book on it so it give us something to talk about and also gives the reader some useful information
4. Update our email list with new contacts and send promotional emails out to it when new website is up and running to let people know about the free chapters we are offering and the launch of the book.
5. Liase with the publishers Lean Marketing Press (www.bookshaker.com) and develop a joint promotional plan with them to promote the book to their email marketing lists
6. Make sure that we give draft copies to key individuals and even some famous people we admire to see if they will provide reviews that can be used on the book cover and on the website.
7. Promote the book on small business websites, either through PR or web adverts, could offer reductions to organisations such as The Federation of Small Businesses.
8. Promote the book at all our speaking engagments, seminars and at networking events etc perhaps provide as a competition prize
9. Sell a digital version of our book on our website so that people can have instant access, rather than have to wait for it to be posted via Amazon or Bookshaker – perhaps we could also offer some bonus items for people downloading it such as some marketing templates
10. Ensure that our website and blog is optimised for marketing book etc so that we can be found when people are looking for things. Maybe take out some Google Adwords, pay per click adverts for key search terms such as marketing book etc
Once we had decided on the ten key areas, then we worked on how we were going to implement each one in turn and set some timelines and budgets to each one to ensure that we met our deadlines.
