Book Launch – Harder than it looks
As our clients and colleagues will know, we decided to write a book earlier this year that contained a good proportion of all the marketing knowledge whizzing around in our brains. We wanted to develop a “how to” marketing book that gave the reader the inside knowledge of how to put together a direct mail campaign or how to buy advertising effectively and more importantly, how on earth search engine optimisation works. Rather than just the theory behind marketing which is great if you want to pass an exam, but not so great if you want to sell products and services.
However, as we found out, saying you are going to write a book and actually doing it are two very different things. Sitting down with a blank screen in front of you is quite daunting to say the least, and although we have written countless articles, reports and marketing plans over our time, downloading the years of marketing content from our brains into meaningful sentences was much harder than we realised. For one thing, you see how much jargon you use on a daily basis and also what you think is straightforward because you have been doing it for years, is more difficult to explain than you expected.
Then finding someone who actually wants to publish your book can be a really demoralising exercise and makes you wonder why on earth you committed to writing the blooming thing in the first place, if no one wants to publish it. However, we persevered just like J.K Rowling who was in fact rejected 12 times before Bloomsbury a small publishing house in London decided to take a chance on her first book. Then miraculously just as we were loosing hope in finding anyone, Lean Marketing Press came along and offered us a great little publishing deal, which will see our book on Amazon and also on their book website www.bookshaker.com
So why tell you all this? Well of course we want you to buy our marketing book which will be launched in January 2009, but we also want to keep you up-to-date on the marketing we are undertaking, so you can benefit from finding out about how to take a product to market. It might be a book, but it is still a product and it is still important that we give it all the marketing help it can to succeed. So each week or so we will give you an insight into what marketing we have done, what’s worked and what hasn’t so you can join us on our journey to literary success!
If you want a sneak preview of the book, you can download two chapters completely free of charge, until the launch day, all you need to do is fill out your name and email address and we’ll email it over to you.
